30 Day Action Plan - Day 4 : Getting Ready To Setup Your Website (Step-By-Step Guide To Building A Profitable Niche Marketing Business - Part 6 of 27)

Never underestimate the value of a good domain name.

Let’s take a closer look at this.  Suppose you’re a wrestling fan… your natural inclination is to type the address www.wwe.com on your browser’s address bar, right?  You won’t want to go through the search engines for something as simple as that.  Suppose you bought a Sony Wega TV… your natural inclination, whenever you’re in need of technical support, is to visit www.sony.com or www.sonywega.com .  Again, you wouldn’t find the need to consult the search engines for such an intuitive query.

You need a domain name.  Free ones which adjoin the service’s brand to your desired domain name just don’t cut it.  Having the URL www.geocities.com/cheapcomputersonline may have worked way back in 1997, but nowadays, your website will just be considered as amateurish if you decide to take this route.

Additionally, having a .com extension should also be your first choice.  A .com extension is the most familiar type that people are used to entering.  Also, a .com extension gives your website an instant boost in credibility.

There are 5 important points to consider in choosing your domain name.  Let’s take a look at them:

1. Your domain name should include your primary keywords.  If “cheap computers” will be your primary key phrase, for example, your domain name should be something like bestcheapcomputers.com or cheapcomputersforever.com .  This would give your website a slight boost when it comes to its page rank, with Google at least.

2. Your domain name should not, as much as possible, contain any numbers.  They are quite confusing.  One of the benefits of having a good domain is URL recall.  Your visitors will have a harder time remembering your domain name if it is composed of alphanumeric characters.

3. Your domain name should not contain abbreviations of your keywords.  The goal is to have a recognizably relevant domain name and abbreviations would defeat this purpose.

4. Your domain name should be as short as your keyword will allow.  If the URL cheapcomputers.com is available, which is doubtful, then grab it fast!

5. It goes without saying that your domain name should be relevant to the subject of your website, of course.  If your website is about a review of cheap computers for sale online, then buycheapcomputers.com is a better domain name than, say, sellcheapcomputers.com.

Registering a domain name is easy.  Simply go to any of the following online registrars:

The Internet Company LLC – Cheap Domain Names
www.namecheap.com

Both services offer domain names for as low as $8.88.

Domain names are subject to availability.  You will never be able to register domain names that have already been taken by other people.

But here’s a big secret.

Be on the lookout for abandoned domain names.  These are domain names that have expired and have not been renewed.  Why are these abandoned domain names potentially important?  Well, they may have existing links throughout the World Wide Web, in which case, your website’s link popularity can experience a boost even before its domain name is registered, or re-registered as the case may be.

To find good abandoned domain names, click on the link below…

http://www.deleteddomains.com

There is a feature on that website called “Power Search.”  Click on the button and you will be transported to a page with empty fields.  Simply fill in the fields with your primary keywords…

search-domains

You will then be able to view abandoned domains containing your primary keywords…

domain-list

If a good abandoned domain is available, conforming to the qualifications we have mentioned above, grab it as soon as you can.

Not everyone knows the value of a good abandoned domain name.  Use this knowledge to your advantage, alright?

Now, you also need to enroll for a web hosting service.  A web host is where your website, as well as necessary files, will be stored.  Basically, every time an Internet user types in your URL or clicks on a link of yours, his computer will request the download of your website from the web host, and thereafter, your website will be displayed on his screen.

There are three important things to consider when it comes to choosing a web hosting service.  These are:

1. Bandwidth.  Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transferred from the server to the user.  You will need a bandwidth limit of at least 5GB per month to ensure that your visitors will have an easy time in accessing your website.

2. Storage limit.  Storage limit refers to the maximum file size you can upload onto the server.  This isn’t really as important as bandwidth.  A storage limit of 50MB will be enough for most purposes.

3. Number of domains allowed.  Some servers only allow one domain per account.  Others allow 5.  A few allow an unlimited number of domains.  For the purpose of earning from niche sites (referring to a single niche,) you would want the latter.

Server fees differ from one web host to another.  Others charge as low as $3 per month.  Others offer a one-time fee of $50.

Don’t make the price the primary consideration.  Always remember the three important factors we have mentioned above.  I dare say that your web hosting service is one of two critical investments you have to make to succeed with niche websites.  So make the right decision.

Also, we have to discuss this as early as today.  In the coming days, we will have to build a website.  You will have to upload this website to the server of your choice.  This can be quite a complicated process for the uninitiated.  To avoid any potential problems, try to choose a web host that has a built-in website builder.  This online tool will make things easier for you when you have to upload your files.

I strongly recommend the TurboWWW.com, as their services are worth every dollar you’ll spend.  You will gain access to a variety of features not found in any other web-hosting provider.

If you’re already a member of the TurboMembership.com, then web hosting shouldn’t be a problem.  One of the many benefits you’ll have is a dedicated web server with a variety of helpful scripts pre-installed.

30 Day Action Plan - Day 5 : Creating A Website

A niche website basically has three important components:

1. A header;

2. AdSense placements; and

3. Content

Of these components, content is the most vital.  We will discuss this tomorrow.  For today, we will deal with basic niche website layout and design, so that all that is needed to be done in the coming days will be the integration of the content.

We will also deal with preliminary steps for on-page search engine optimization, or SEO.

SEO is important for your website’s success because you will want to win the favor of the many search engines on the Internet.  80% of your traffic, after all, will come from the main search engines like Google, MSN, and Yahoo.  Being able to implement certain things into your website to attract the attention of the search engine spiders for every relevant query will be critical for your success in winning a good search engine results page (SERP) position.

So, how exactly do you create a basic niche website?

We could spend 500 pages discussing HTML for this purpose.  But bear in mind that the strategy being taught in these pages will require repetition.  You will have to do these steps in 20, 30, or even 50 websites.  You will need to invest in a tool that will empower you to create websites at a rapid pace.

Macromedia’s Dreamweaver and Microsoft’s Front Page are two of the most powerful HTML editors in the market today.  Either of these two tools would help you create the best-looking website possible.

The problem is, maximizing the benefits of these website creators require technical mastery of their programs.  Their programs aren’t really newbie-friendly.  It takes time to know how each of their features works.

2005 saw the release of Xsite Pro.  This program is heaven sent for many Internet marketers because it was built with the Internet marketer in mind.  Xsite Pro allows its users to create product malls, sales pages, and – yes- niche websites in a matter of minutes.  All you need to do is to have your graphics and your content ready and insert them where they need to be inserted.  Interlinking pages is done automatically.  There is no need to manually link them together.  Dividing pages becomes a snap.  And publishing your website won’t pose any problem at all.

Xsite Pro is the best investment for people who wish to earn with AdSense.  It is the engine that will make a niche website explosion possible.

Some people are not able to afford this tool or its alternatives, however.  But there are always free ones available on the World Wide Web.

The best web creation program that is offered free of charge can be found at www.nvu.com .  The program has its limitations, of course, but it more than makes up for them by offering an intuitive interface that is easy to use and is not burdened by an overabundance of superfluous features.

The first thing we have to integrate into your website is the header.

A header is an image that is meant to introduce your site.  It’s your first chance to capture the interests of your visitors, to compel them to stay, and to read what your web pages can offer.

A header is usually 700 pixels long and 150 pixels high.  It should be beautifully designed, containing graphics that are relevant to the subject you’re catering to as well as the title of your website.

Below, you can find an example of a header.

header-1

If you have some knowledge about working with Adobe Photoshop or any other photo editing software, you won’t have any problems coming up with attractive headers.  The important requisite you should possess, really, is excellent design fundamentals.  This is often inborn instead of developed.

Often, people hire graphic artists to deliver some custom-made headers.  Naturally, you’d have to spend if you decide to take this route.  A header normally costs around $15 to $25, which can be expensive if you’re going to create multiple websites for multiple income streams.

So here’s a tip.

You could give Instant Niche Headers a try.  You’ll receive 100 header templates for a variety of subjects.  All you have to do is include your website’s title.  Here are some samples of the headers you can get from this package.

Instant Niche Headers

For a very low price, you’ll get 100 fresh headers you can use for a variety of purposes.  I strongly recommend that you partake of this offer, especially since our goal is to build a battalion of websites that will cumulatively earn a substantial profit from PPC programs.

Really, it’s the most cost-effective option, with the exception of creating your own headers, of course.

Thereafter, you’ll need to work on the body of your website.  There are many formats you can follow for this.  Again, if you’re already familiar with web design, then this step should pose no problems.  But if you’re not, don’t fret.  The Internet is a wonderland of fantastic resources waiting to be exploited.

Do you need free templates that you can customize without having to worry about licenses and copyrights?  Head over to the link below…

http://www.oswd.org

That website is a resource center for free-to-use templates and there are thousands of them.

Now, I don’t want you to pick out the most attractive, no, not at all.  I want you to pick out the most effective.

By “effective,” I mean a template that:

• will make it easier for your visitors to read what you have to say;
• has calm colors, preferably white, for the background of the texts;
• has little components that won’t slow the loading time much;
• will make it easier for you to update your content without having to make a lot of adjustments to the source code; and
• contains elements that are consistent with one another, and more importantly, consistent with the subject you have chosen to focus on.

Simplicity is the key.  You will be making tens and hundreds of these websites later on, so you might as well choose a template that will allow you to work on your websites quickly and efficiently.  You don’t need intricate designs.  Stick with plain and effective ones.

Once you have chosen a template, simply plug it into your HTML editor and change some of the elements that are not really consistent with the design you have in mind.

Again, if you’re using Xsite Pro, there’s no need to choose a template.  The said program already has some built-in templates specifically created for AdSense mini-sites.  Xsite Pro even has AdSense ads ready for display and all you have to do is include your own AdSense code.

You could also try another popular route.

Go to www.wordpress.com and download the WordPress program.  It’s free.

WordPress is a powerful blogging software that allows webmasters to host their own blogs on their own servers.  However, since blogs are very, very easy to use, enterprising webmasters have begun using them as a convenient way of publishing content.  Nowadays, it’s not uncommon to see a blog being utilized as a niche website.

Simply change some of the elements that are originally bundled with the WordPress software.  For example, instead of having the program display “Previous Entries,” you could change it to read “Previous Articles.”  Instead of having the program display “Archives,” you could split the database it points to and create specific archives for each sub-topic in the niche you have chosen.  Instead of having the program display “Links,” you could change it to read “Useful Resources.”

People normally use blogs as online diaries.  But think of it as a web- publishing alternative.  Blogging programs, specifically WordPress, will allow you to update your content in the most convenient way possible.  And this is very important to your success, as we will discuss later on.

30 Day Action Plan - Day 6 : Meta-Tags

Even if you just have a bare website right, devoid of any text content, you could spend this day optimizing your pages for the search engines.

By now, you should already have a domain name that contains your primary keyword.  That’s a good start, and it will instantly give you a boost, no matter how slight, to your soon-to-be-published website’s page rank.

One way to boost your page rank even further is by making good use of meta tags.  Meta tags will help the search engine spiders “stamp” your site for filing in its database.

A basic knowledge of HTML would make it easier for you to formulate your own meta tags, but we will not make that necessary.  Below, you can find the essential meta tags that should be included in your site.

This field will tell the search engines who wrote or designed your site.  Always use this tag to build your reputation and brand.

Use one of the keywords that describe your site.  If your business is about dog training, put “dog training” in the field under CONTENT.  This will help the search engines categorize your site.

This will also help the search engines categorize your site.  Do not describe your site in more than 25 words or 255 characters.

Always use this tag.  You may enter multiple keywords separated by a comma.  You can enter key phrases too.  Basically, the spiders will read this tag whenever a search is performed that includes any of the keywords you have provided.

This tag tells the spiders when to visit your site again.  Enter a period when you want your site rechecked by the spiders for updated content.

This will tell the spiders if your site is for general viewing or for a limited audience.  If your site has adult material, enter “Adult.”  Otherwise, leave it as “General.”

Basically, this tag commands those spiders to index your site and the links contained therein.  You could set the field to other variables, but I suggest that you keep it as “All” to maximize indexing.

Place these meta-tags on the very top of your source code.  It doesn’t really matter where you place them, actually, since they are not executable HTML commands, but being on top would make it easier for you to know where to find them when the need arises and you can also be sure that the search engine spiders will read them before anything else.

It is important to note the search engine spiders read your meta tags before they read the contents of your site.  Having the proper meta tags will help your site’s prominence, but this is not the end-all and be-all of search engine optimization.

Easy, right?

Now, spend the rest of the day preparing an outline for your content.  We will be discussing content on the next page.

30 Day Action Plan - Day 7 to 16 : Preparing Your Content

As is apparent with the title of this section, we are allotting ten days for the preparation of your content.  We have a good reason for this.  Your website’s content is everything!

They say that content is king and rightfully so.  If information is the fuel for the Internet, then content is the fuel for information.

As such, you need to make sure that you come up with the best content possible for your website.  Not just high quality, informative, content, mind you, but content that possesses the following traits as well:

1. Your content should be unique, that is, it cannot be found anywhere else.  Search engines punish duplicate content with a lower page rank, or worse, with de-indexing from their database.  If this happens, you’ll lose 80% of your potential traffic.

2. Your content should be populated by the relevant and popular keywords that you should have listed from Day Two.  These keywords will be the backbone of each content piece you will have to prepare for your website.

3. Your content should be worth reading.  If your content is junk, your visitors will just leave your website as quickly as they have arrived.  Ensure that they stay and stick with you through highly educational content.

Keywords are, well, the key to success when it comes to preparing your content.  By now, you should have a list of popular keywords at hand.  If you feel that the number of keywords you have is not enough, click on the link below…

http://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox

Simply type in the subject you wish to explore and you’ll be taken to a results page with related keywords that you can use.  Let’s try “cheap computers,” for example…

specific-keywords

These are just some of the many, many keywords that will appear.  Aside from these, you will also be able to access a list of expanded broad matches to the subject you have entered, as well as related keywords that don’t even include your primary search words.  Yes!  The tool is that powerful and intelligent!  Bookmark it now as it will prove invaluable for you later on.

Now, with a list of around 50 (yes, fifty!) keywords at hand, it’s time to prepare your content pieces.

Basically, content pieces are referred to as articles.  This is because they should be bounded by a common theme, i.e. the particular keyword each piece should focus on.

For example, “cheap laptop computers” is a popular key phrase for the general subject of “cheap computers.”  Your website should have an article that will deal with “cheap laptop computers.”  The article can be entitled as “Where To Find Cheap Laptop Computers,” or “What To Consider When Buying Cheap Laptop Computers.”  The possibilities are literally endless when it comes to this aspect.  You just have to bear in mind the following guidelines:

  • Always include the particular keyword in the title of the appropriate article.  As you have noticed above, the keywords “cheap laptop computers” were always found in the suggested titles.
  • Each article should have a 3% keyword density level, that is, 3 mentions of the keywords for every 100 words of text.
  • The keywords should appear in the very first sentence of the article, twice during the first paragraph, and at least once in each paragraph thereafter.
  • It would help if you could divide the articles into many segments, with each segment introduced by a sub-heading.  The sub-heading should also include the keywords.
  • Most importantly, there must be a balance between keyword placement and the readability of the article.  The informative nature of your content piece should never ever be compromised.

Now, there are two ways by which you could prepare these articles:

1. Write them yourself; or

2. Hire someone to write for them for you.

Writing them yourself will take time; hence, we have allotted ten days for this entire process.  Not only will you have to invest a lot of hours, but a lot of time will also be taken away from the other demands of your life.

This is why many webmasters would rather hire freelance writers to come up with articles for them.  Yes, this option would also take some time, but at least you could do more with those hours than having to contend with content preparation.

The Outsourcing Survival Kit was written to be your one-stop guide for all matters concerning freelancers.  Know where to find the best freelancers, how much to pay, and how to strike the best deals by reading the pages of this eBook.

For now, it would suffice to say that you should expect to pay somewhere in the range of $6 to $15 for a 500-word article.

You need at least 50 articles for your first website.

A lot of money, huh?

A good friend of mine is going to launch www.TheArticleClub.com in April of 2006.  He usually charges $7 per 500-word article if you order from that site.  But contact him at contentspecialists@gmail.com and tell him that I referred you and he’ll give you a $3 discount for every article you need to have written.  Again, don’t forget to mention my name; otherwise, you’ll be charged normally. You can also contact with Joe Chengery III at www.joechengery.com, again mention my name and get a $3 discount per article.

This is not meant to dissuade you from writing your own articles, of course.  If you have the time as well as the writing prowess, then by all means, write your own stuff.  But in the event that other factors bar you from preparing your own content, do consider outsourcing the work.  You will need the time you’ll be able to save for the other aspects of your website which you need to take care of.

Why 50 articles, you might ask?

50 articles will give you around 50 to 150 pages, depending on the length of each article and if you decide to split them into smaller content pieces.  These would be 50 to 150 of your own web pages to be published on the World Wide Web.

This means that you have 50 to 150 virtual agents that will try to earn some passive income for you, 24/7, on auto-pilot at that.

The AdSense code can be included per page, not per website.  Furthermore, each page is allowed a maximum of 3 AdSense blocks.  Having 50 to 150 pages, each displaying 1 to 3 AdSense blocks, would give you more chances of securing your market, which would lead to a higher possibility of earning some clicks for more commissions.

So get to work on those articles and make them the best that they can be.

Remember, your website will be judged by the quality of your articles.  Hence, this step is the most important undertaking you will have to observe throughout the entire process.
