30 Day Action Plan - Day 1 : Brainstorming An Idea (Step-By-Step Guide To Building A Profitable Niche Marketing Business - Part 5 of 27)
It all starts with an idea.
A website is a means by which you can convey information online. The first question you have to ask yourself is: what information should you share?
Naturally, you’d want a topic that is closer to home, so to speak. You’d want a topic that you’re very familiar with. You will be able to share more about such a subject because of previous experiences, unbridled passion, or overflowing interests. You’ll be able to save up on research time that may be required in preparing the conveyance of information about the said topic.
Spend this day finding an idea. How can you do this? Try to answer the following questions:
1. Do you have some hobbies that you’re very acquainted with?
2. Have you traveled to some fascinating places that made you know the territory as well as the culture they possess?
3. Where would you rather be right now? How familiar are you with that place?
4. Have you had any work experience that made you develop some amazing skills that not a lot of people know about?
5. Are you a fan of any particular sport? Do you know the rules, the mechanics, and the personalities involved with such a sport by heart?
6. Do you have a particular area of interest being served by a variety of products? Are you familiar and are you passionate about these products? Do you think you could write some comparative reviews about them?
7. Do you enjoy doing a particular activity, either alone or with friends?
8. There are times when you simply don’t want to work, right? During these times, you wish you were doing something else. What are these things you’d rather do whenever work seems so boring?
9. What are you good at? Giving advice to people, perhaps? If so, what kind of advice?
10. Is there something you’ve always wanted to learn? Though you may not be familiar with this subject right now, your desire to be well acquainted with it can motivate you throughout the coming months.
Spend the whole day brainstorming an idea that you would love to pursue. I used the word “love” because it is not enough that you’re slightly interested in the idea. You must have a certain fondness for it. This will motivate you to come up with updates for your website later on.
Don’t hesitate to consult with family and friends and seek their help. Two or more heads are still better than one, right?
Thereafter, make a list of the ideas that come to mind. The longer the list is, the better your chances are of finding a very profitable subject for your moneymaking website.
Keep this list, as we will refer to it again tomorrow.
30 Day Action Plan - Day 2 : Finding Niches
Take a look at the list of ideas you made yesterday.
Let’s suppose that one of them is about the general subject of computers. You’re a computer whiz, for example, and you want to share a lot of information about how computers work and how to fix some common problems with them.
The question you should ask yourself is this: is such an idea profitable?
How exactly do you determine the profitability of an idea?
With the example of “computers” at hand, let’s run a search.
Can you see the number of available web pages catering to the very same subject? It’s the encircled portion in the screen above. 448 million web pages is a lot! You’d have to compete with each and every web page to get to the first page of the search engine results. And though such is not really impossible, it’s still an improbability that would be difficult to overcome.
The trick lies in two approaches:
1. Finding a subject that has little competition; or
2. Narrowing down your chosen subject into a highly particular sub-topic that your competition often neglects.
These two approaches all mean the same thing, however; that is, you have to find your own niche.
A niche is a highly segmented portion of a given market that is serviced by few entities. The general subject of “dogs” may not be profitable. But a sub-topic of “Shih-Tzu” can have a lot of moneymaking potential. And if such a sub-topic is further pruned to, say, “common diseases plaguing Shih-Tzu dogs,” you’d have a wonderful niche that could become a fantastic income stream for many, many years.
There are no ifs and buts about it. You have to find a niche. The list you have created on day one should further be trimmed to come up with a niche that people will want to be informed about without that many websites providing such information.
How do you determine the exact profitability of a niche?
Point your browser to the link below:
http://www.nichebot.com
You’ll be taken to a powerful (and free) online tool that will help you come up with fantastic niche ideas, as well as their corresponding profitability stats.
Simply type in the subject you want to explore. Let’s use our original example on “computers.”

Simply search for that term, and some results will appear…

This page refers to the statistics for the last 12 months prior to your query. “Count” refers to the number of times the corresponding phrase was searched for in the database of KeyWordDiscovery.com . “Competition” refers to the number of pages listed at Google which contains the exact phrase. And the “Ratio” refers to how profitable the particular subject is. The closer to 0.0 the ratio is, the more profitable the phrase is said to be.
So immediately, you’d know that the trick is in finding a sub-topic that has a ratio that is as close to 0.0 as possible; that is, a sub-topic that has a lot of searches but few pages catering to the exact phrase.
In the example above, the phrases “cheap computers” and “best computers” have ratios of 0.85 and 0.52 respectively. This means that they have the biggest chances of earning more profit for you, given the basic law of supply and demand.
These stats, of course, refer to searches made through www.KeyWordDiscovery.com . If you wish for a more popular barometer, you could click on the “Overture” link found on the top of the page…

This would bring you to relevant details about searches made at www.Overture.com within the past 3 months. Overture is a service that has recently been bought by Yahoo; hence, its database is said to be more comprehensive. The Overture option won’t give you a profitability ratio, however. You have to do this manually.
Alternatively, you could also use DigitalPoint’s keyword suggestions tool that can be found at:
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion
This tool has been getting rave reviews because of the sheer comprehensiveness of the statistics it provides. The mother website also hosts a variety of other features that will prove important to us later on, but we will discuss them as we go along.
Now, you need to make a new list.
This time, you have to write down the phrases that appear profitable. We have mentioned above that under the general subject of computers, “cheap computers” and “best computers” are the most profitable search phrases. If you want to stick with the topic of computers, these two niches should be the focus of your website.
These search phrases will also be your keywords.
Keywords are very, very, very important for the success of your website.
Internet users will use these keywords whenever they search for information on the matter. Once the keywords are used in search engines, the search engines will dispatch their spiders to look for indexed websites that contain the said keywords. If your website has the same exact keywords, then you’ll have great chances of appearing prominently in the search engine results pages.
So make a list of the profitable keywords you find. We will have several uses for them later on.
Again, the trick is in finding a profitable niche. It all starts from there. This might prove difficult and time-consuming, but fortunately, some fellow marketers provide lists of lucrative niche markets they have dug up themselves.
You might want to consider Jimmy D. Brown & Ryan Deiss' Niche Pay Raise and Niche Factors are two vital resources that could transform your quest for a niche into a potential gold mine. These two books have helped countless Internet Marketers find target markets that will serve them well for many years. You owe it to yourself to try them out.
If you’re a member of the TurboMembership , you will already be provided with a monthly list of the hottest keywords in town, so you can skip this step.
30 Day Action Plan - Day 3 : Market Research
We have previously discussed that the success of a niche website depends on three things:
1. Your page impressions
2. Your click through rate (CTR)
3. The cost-per-click (CPC) of the ads that are displayed on your website
Page impressions can be manipulated via some traffic-generating strategies we will discuss later on. CTR can be controlled via some unique ad placements and page designs we will also discuss in the coming days.
But CPC is something that you have to consider early, as it depends on your choice of keywords.
Certain keywords will cause the display of certain ads. So again, as we had discussed yesterday, it all begins with your keywords.
You will want your keywords to attract high-paying AdSense Ads.
There are two ways by which you can ensure the generous-paying ads for your keywords.
1. Go to www.adsensearena.com . You could conduct a manual search on your keywords and determine how much advertisers are paying for it. With our example on “cheap computers,” we can easily see the going rate for the said keywords…

Now, $1.57 is a pretty good CPC for a keyword, and given the profitability ratio attached to “cheap computers,” you now know that it has excellent chances of succeeding.
Alternatively, you could make www.adsensearena.com your first stop and try to get some inspiration of what keywords to target via its comprehensive listing. Don’t forget to determine your choices’ profitability ratios with the techniques we have discussed yesterday, however. The number of searches vis a vis the number of competition for the said keywords is always vital for a keyword’s success.
2. You could go to http://adwords.google.com/ and create an account. Thereafter, you could try bidding on some keywords. You’ll be able to see the going rate for the said keywords and you’ll have an idea about how much you could earn per click.
It’s not enough to know how much the keywords are worth. You also have to know how many possible ads will be displayed if you decide to create a website that focuses on the same keywords. Also, you’ll have to study how these ads are presented. Some ads are just begging for a click, while others are too bland to deserve a second of attention.
Go to the link below…
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/adsense-sandbox
By using the tool on this page, we will find out what AdSense ads are assigned for a particular keyword. Let’s try “cheap computers” for example.

You’ll immediately be taken to a results page that enumerates all the possible ads such keywords manage to attract and display on your web pages…

As you can see, almost all the possible ads display some bargain offers for cheap computers on sale. You could use this knowledge in creating your website. For example, you could design your website to become a review center for a variety of affordable computers on the market. Naturally, you’d want to feature products that are offered by the ads that appear above. This would subtly compel your readers to click on the AdSense ads that appear on your pages.
By the end of the day, you should have finalized your choice of a subject, which should have been trimmed down to a highly profitable niche. Also, you should have prepared a list of at least 10 keywords relevant to the subject you have chosen.
These are the foundations of your moneymaking website.
